The History of The Museum.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol Museum & Training Facility was born from a shared vision—to honor the men and women who have served the citizens of North Carolina with integrity, courage, and sacrifice since 1929, and to ensure that their legacy continues to inspire generations to come.

For decades, the North Carolina Troopers Association and members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP)worked to preserve artifacts, photographs, and stories that tell the remarkable history of the Patrol. From the first fleet of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and early patrol cars, to the evolution of trooper training and technology, these invaluable pieces of history were carefully maintained by dedicated troopers, retirees, and supporters.

As the Patrol approached its centennial milestone, the need for a permanent home to safeguard and share this history became clear. In 2022, recognizing the importance of honoring the Patrol’s legacy and advancing training capabilities for future troopers, the North Carolina General Assembly appropriated $19millionto assist with the planning and construction of a new state-of-the-art museum and training center. Construction of the facility began soon after, marking a historic moment not only for the Patrol but for all North Carolinians.

The Museum & Training Facility, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, will serve as both a center of education and a symbol of pride. When it opens its doors in early 2026, the museum will feature interactive exhibits, historical displays, and tributes to the lives and service of troopers throughout the Patrol’s history. Visitors will be able to explore nearly a century of law enforcement history—seeing firsthand how the Patrol has grown from 10 original patrolmen in 1929 to a modern, statewide force of more than 1,600 troopers and 2,340 employees dedicated to protecting and serving the people of North Carolina.

The training facility will complement the museum by providing a space to educate, develop, and inspire the next generation of North Carolina State Troopers—ensuring that the same values of honor, duty, and service continue to define the Patrol’s future. The North Carolina Highway Patrol Museum & Training Facility stands as a lasting tribute to those who have worn the uniform, a place of learning for the public, and a beacon of inspiration for those who will carry the torch forward.
